Animalia's training program "Animal welfare in slaughterhouses - 4legged" is approved as the basis for applying to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) in order to receive a certificate of competence to work with live animals in slaughterhouses.

This certificate is a prerequisite for being able to work in slaughterhouses or with stunning/killing.

The training program includes an e-learning course with four modules combined with practical training. You can apply for a certificate of competence for one or more categories of animals and tasks. If you click on this checklist, you will be asked to define which animals and tasks you will be working with. This list must be printed. It shows which modules and exams you must pass to qualify. It must also be used to document that you have the necessary practical skills. One exam must be completed for each module.

At larger slaughterhouses, there is an Animal Welfare Officer (AWO) who is responsible for providing practical training. When the AWO thinks that you have enough training, the person in question signs the checklist.

People at small-scale slaughterhouses must clarify with the local Food Safety Authority what they require in terms of documentation of practical skills, and who needs to sign the checklist.
