This Power Petroleum 12T Tank Wagon 115 model is presented in the silver ‘Power’ livery from the early 20th century.
Bulk liquid in various forms such as petroleum, oil, and chemicals transported via wagons have been a perennial feature of British Railways, with a multitude of privately owned companies owning fleets of tanker wagons brandished in their own paint schemes.
Power Petroleum Company, formed in 1923 for the distribution of imported Russian oil, was no different, painting their wagons silver with green lettering.
These tank wagons were built in vast numbers for private owners to move all types of bulk liquids by rail, including petroleum, oil, tar, paraffin and chemicals. Although there were many variations in design, they were a common sight on Britain’s railways from the early part of the 20th century. The Power Petroleum Company was established in 1923 with offices on The Strand, London.
