This style of sweet vintage bag is known as a miser's, or beggar's, bag and came into fashion at the end of the 18th century; it was used by men and women until the early part of the 20th century. It was often knitted or crocheted, netted with silk thread, and later styled with mesh or fabrics. They were often decorated with beadwork tassels and fringes and often a pull tight thread or concertina closure such as this one.
Its intricate design pairs beautifully with an elegant gown, making it the perfect accessory for weddings or formal events. At least 50 years young, and in excellent condition from our Stylists personal collection!
