The Jeep Hat began as the U.S. Army’s “Cap, Wool, Knit, M1941,” a short-billed knit cap issued during World War II. It was designed as a warming layer beneath the standard steel helmet, where the low profile, knit lower, and small visor could add warmth without getting in the way.
After the war, surplus examples moved into garages, farm trucks, deer camps, and duck blinds. The same details that worked beneath a helmet made sense in cold-weather hunting: a knit body pulled low over the ears, a short bill that kept sun and weather out of the eyes, and a shape that stayed close to the head. The design later picked up the nickname “Radar Hat” after Radar O’Reilly wore one on M*A*S*H.
The Blaze Orange Jeep Hat carries that form into deer woods and upland cover, adding the visibility those places often require. The upper is made from 100% polyester with polyester insulation. A 100% acrylic knit lower holds warmth around the head and ears, while the moldable short bill can be shaped to the wearer’s preference.
It is a military-born cold-weather hat, adapted for the field and kept useful by the same plain design.
