Citrus japonica, commonly known as Kumquat, is a small, evergreen fruit tree native to China and Southeast Asia. It is widely grown for its unique, bright orange fruits that are eaten whole — including the sweet rind and tangy-sour pulp.
The plant is highly ornamental, featuring glossy, dark-green leaves, fragrant white flowers, and clusters of small oval fruits. It usually grows 2–4 meters tall but can be maintained as a shrub or container plant.
Kumquats are hardy compared to other citrus species, tolerating cooler temperatures and even light frost. They are excellent choices for home gardens, bonsai, and potted culture.
