Book I of The Cycle Of Fire. Written in the records at Vaere is the tale of the binding of the Mharg-demons by Anskiere, wizard of wind and wave. He was aided by Ivain, master of fire and earth. But at the moment of greatest peril, Ivain betrayed Anskiere out of jealousy. Yet the demons were defeated, the wards sealed and Anskiere survived to swear an oath against his betrayer - that Ivain was pardoned, but not forgotten.
