The Emerald or Wanamensis Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia wanamensis) is a unique, vividly colored schooling fish from Lake Wanam in Papua New Guinea. Males display shimmering emerald-green and turquoise tones with orange-red fins, while females show softer hues. Peaceful and highly active, they thrive in groups and bring constant movement and color to a planted aquarium. These rainbowfish are omnivores that accept a wide variety of foods, including quality flake, small pellets, and frozen or live treats such as brine shrimp and daphnia. Growing to about 3–4 inches, they do best with other non-aggressive species in a well-maintained community tank.
