I love Great Blue Herons and had many opportunities to observe them when we lived in Florida. Our land there had a large pond filled with fish and turtles and frogs – a prime hunting ground for the magnificent large water birds that spend part of their year in Florida. The Herons especially have such a wise and intelligent look in their eyes, or maybe it is the way they hold their heads so erect on their impressive necks. I wanted to do a painting of a woman looking out on a far horizon, contemplating her life and a Heron seemed the perfect animal advisor as she posed questions to the Universe.
