"Garnets are found in a number of varieties around the world, but perhaps their most famous examples are the deep red varieties of pyrope-almandine garnets. These were most notably found in the region of Bohemia, which is the modern-day Czech Republic, and the region’s jewels became widely popular, densely set with a multitude of these deep red stones, shining like pomegranate seeds. Larger garnets like this were often cut en cabochon, and some have slightly concave bases, or are even foil-backed to help the light find its way more easily through the deep red. This beautiful example, with its characteristically rich colour, is flanked by a pair of pure natural pearls and accented with tiny glints of rose-cut diamonds, all offset by an opulent yellow gold mount with scrolled galleries. A truly luxurious example of Victorian jewellery design."
