"In this sign thou shalt conquer"
"In hoc signo vinces" is Latin for 'Under this sign you will prevail', also translated as "In this sign thou shalt conquer" or "By this sign conquer". These words were supposed, according to various accounts, to have been heard in a dream or seen on the evening sky the day before the battle of Mulvian Bridge, by Constantine, the future emperor of Rome. The words were accompanied by the shining cross or chi-rho - ☧.
It was the chi-rho - ☧, that he ordered his soldiers to paint on their shields and under this sign the battle was won. A few years after the battle, he allowed Christ to be freely professed and was baptised, making Christianity the official religion of Rome. With this print, we want to commemorate that event.
Chi-rho in the center of the print is a Christogram that was formed by the first Church by combining two first Greek letters of Christ's name - ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ, and in antiquity was a symbol even more popular than the cross.
