About the Sculpture

Namji dolls are traditional artifacts representing fertility and motherhood in the Namji tribe of North Cameroon. These dolls are meticulously crafted from solid pine wood and adorned with intricate beads, cowrie shells and other locally sourced materials. They can be found in various sizes and colours hence you will never find two that are exactly alike adding to the uniqueness of each doll.

The dolls are often given to young women as part of fertility rituals and ceremonies to bring blessings of fertility, a healthy pregnancy, and successful childbirth. In Namji culture, these dolls are considered sacred and are believed to serve as a symbol of hope and protection for women seeking to conceive and start a family.
