【Jazz Signature: Blaine Whittaker Trio】

Blaine Whittaker 是長年活躍於國際舞台的資深音樂人，在 90 年代前往紐約，師從 Wynton Marsalis、George Coleman 及 Vincent Herring 等傳奇大師。回到澳洲後，他曾擔任澳洲爵士教父 James Morrison 巡演樂團成員長達十年。定居大中華區後，Blaine 的音樂足跡亦在流行、R&B 與爵士場景之間自由穿梭，除了與林憶蓮、張學友、方大同等流行巨星合作，更曾與鋼琴大師 Billy Childs 同台錄音，展現出其在不同曲風間游刃有餘的駕馭能力。

是次演出Blaine 將與 Scott Dodd 及 Samuel Chan 組成三重奏致敬Sonny Rollins 名作《A Night at the Village Vanguard》留下的經典實驗美學。演出將聚焦於高能量的Hard Bop風格，圍繞爵士標準曲與結合 Free-blowing 的奔放，在沒有和聲樂器的設定下，樂手能在整體音樂結構中得到更大的即興自由，帶領聽眾感受爵士樂最純粹、最原始的碰撞張力，重返那種極具自由度與爆發力Hard Bop現場。

A seasoned musician with a long-standing presence on the international stage, Blaine Whittaker moved to New York in the 1990s to study under legendary masters such as Wynton Marsalis, George Coleman, and Vincent Herring. Following his time in the U.S., he spent a decade as a member of the touring band for Australia’s jazz icon, James Morrison. Since settling in the Greater China region, Blaine has moved seamlessly between the worlds of Pop, R&B, and Jazz. His versatility is reflected in his collaborations with superstars like Sandy Lam, Jacky Cheung, and Khalil Fong, as well as his recording work alongside piano master Billy Childs.

For this performance, Blaine joins forces with Scott Dodd and Samuel Chan in a trio setting that pays homage to the experimental aesthetics of Sonny Rollins’ landmark album, A Night at the Village Vanguard. The set will focus on high-energy Hard Bop, centered around jazz standards and the raw spirit of free-blowing. By performing without a chordal instrument, the musicians gain greater improvisational freedom within the musical structure. This lineup invites the audience to experience the most primal and pure tensions of jazz, recapturing the explosive energy of a classic, liberated Hard Bop session.
