【Special Event: Sax Through the Ages】

來自英國的薩克管手 Alex Woods 是活躍於歐洲與國際舞台的演奏家與作曲家，曾與多位格林美得主合作，包括 Jamie Cullum 與 Charlotte Church，並於英、美、巴西、以色列及東南亞多地演出。他的首張專輯由 Stoney Lane Records 發行，創作涉獵大樂隊至弦樂四重奏等不同編制。Alex 亦曾為 Metropole Orkest 及 Vince Mendoza 相關項目編曲，並參與多個電台與電視錄製，長期投入音樂教育及青年音樂培訓。畢業於英國 Birmingham Conservatoire（一級榮譽），其後獲獎學金前往紐約 Manhattan School of Music 深造。

鋼琴手Bowen Li畢業於倫敦聖三一音樂學院，主修爵士演奏與作曲。回港後與多個藝術團體合作，參與劇場、跨媒體與大型音樂節，包括連續多年於西九自由爵士音樂節演出。他以細膩的和聲運用與穩定的節奏語感見稱，創作亦見於《Freespace Mixtape Vol.3》及多個劇場與舞蹈製作。

本次節目以「How the saxophone found its voice in jazz」為題，Alex 與Bowen 將以音樂與對談帶領觀眾回溯薩克管在爵士史上的聲音演變——從 Sidney Bechet 的早期語彙，到 Charlie Parker 與 John Coltrane 的突破性風格，呈現樂器如何在不同時代尋找到屬於它的聲音。這將是一場結合歷史軌跡、曲目示例與即興交流的夜晚。

UK saxophonist Alex Woods is an active performer and composer on the international stage. He has collaborated with Grammy‑winning artists including Jamie Cullum and Charlotte Church, and has performed across Europe, the US, Brazil, Israel, and Southeast Asia. His debut album was released on Stoney Lane Records, and his writing ranges from big band to string quartet. Alex has also arranged for the Metropole Orkest and Vince Mendoza, appeared on various radio and TV broadcasts, and remains involved in music education. He graduated with first‑class honours from Birmingham Conservatoire and later completed further studies at the Manhattan School of Music.

Pianist Bowen Li, a graduate of Trinity Laban in London, is active in Hong Kong’s jazz and performing arts scenes, collaborating with theatre and multimedia groups and appearing frequently at Freespace Jazz Fest. His work is noted for detailed harmony and clear rhythmic sensibility.

In “How the saxophone found its voice in jazz,” Alex and Bowen trace the instrument’s evolution—from Sidney Bechet’s early sound to the innovations of Charlie Parker and John Coltrane—through music, stories, and improvisation.
